Denny Newburn

Denny works with heads of faculty and departments, teachers and teacher aides to develop secondary literacy skills by examining interdisciplinary literacy in the school setting. She has expertise in teaching reading and writing at secondary level and has an extensive knowledge of the requirements for the new Level 1 Literacy credits (English medium)

Denny also has a thorough knowledge of special needs, in particular neurodiversity and high behaviour needs. She has worked closely with groups of teachers and teacher aides to upskill them in working with these students, and is proficient at writing successful ORS, HBN and ICS applications.

Denny has experience working both in public schools and the private sector, both in direct student contact and as a mentor for the teaching and support staff. She will work with your team to develop positive, successful interactions with students and a range of effective teaching strategies.

She has published several text books and short readers. These books are designed for use with young adults with special needs, social studies students or for students for whom English is a second language.

As part of her SENCo role, Denny has worked extensively with MOE psychologists, Mental Health practitioners, RTLB’s, Occupational Therapists, Resource Teachers of Vision and Hearing and Physiotherapists, to ensure that all the students she is working with have a smooth provision of support.
